The culture of Kalash people is unique and differs completely from the various ethnic groups surrounding them. They are polytheists and nature plays a highly significant and spiritual role in their daily life. As part of their religious tradition, sacrifices are offered and festivals held to give thanks for the abundant resources of their three valleys. Kalasha Desh (the three Kalash valleys) is made up of two distinct cultural areas, the valleys of Rumbur and Brumbret forming one and Birir valley the other, Birir valley being the most traditional of the two.

We are offering various tours of the north of Pakistan in combination with a visit to the Kalash Valleys scheduled around some of their main festivals. It is of course also possible to do a tour of the north including a visit to the Kalash Valleys on a date of your own choice.

Important Kalash festivals:
Joshi (Spring) Festival: from approx. 13 – 16 May
Utchal (Summer) Festival: from approx. 21 – 23 August
Phoo (Autumn) Festival: around Mid October
Chaumos (Winter) Festival: from approx. 7 – 22 December

Day X: optional extra day in Peshawar or Swat
Day 3: Peshawar – Swat
Day 4: Swat – Chitral
Day 5: Chitral – Kalash Valleys
Day X: optional extra day in the Kalash Valleys
Day 6: Kalash Valleys – Mastuj
Day 7: Mastuj – Shandur Pass – Phandar Lake
Day 8: Phandar Lake – Gilgit
Day 9: Gilgit – Karimabad
Day 10: Karimabad
Day 11: Karimabad – Gulmit
Day X: optional extra day in Gulmit & Passu
Day 12: Gulmit – Khunjerab Pass – Gilgit
Day 13: Gilgit – Islamabad
Day X: optional extra day in Islamabad as a spare day & for sightseeing at Taxila
Day 14: Islamabad – Home / Onward flight
